Lok Sabha likely to resume discussion on motion of thanks to President's address today

  • The Lok Sabha is likely to resume discussion on the motion of thanks to the President's address on Wednesday on the third day of the Parliament's ongoing Budget Session.
  • The discussion was disrupted on Tuesday as the House faced repeated adjournments due to ruckus created by opposition parties.
  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Locket Chatterjee will resume her speech and move the motion of thanks to the President's address on January 29.
  • Several papers and reports of Standing Committees will be tabled during the third day of the Budget Session.

Details on Budget

Nirmala Sitharaman's third Budget doubled spending on healthcare, made space for infrastructure and divestment and lifted caps on foreigners investing in its insurance market to help revive an economy bludgeoned by the coronavirus pandemic. Belying expectations, Sitharaman's Budget did not give any income tax relief or made any changes in tax slabs or rates. There was no Covid tax as well. Senior citizens above 75 years of age with only pension and interest income would not be required to file income tax returns. Dalal Street lauded the Budget with the BSE Sensex gaining over 2,000 points.

School Reopening

School Reopening News: 

Schools across the country have started reopening with the number of coronavirus cases steadily dropping. A number of states resumed physical classes on a voluntary basis in the month of January, while a few more states are set to open schools next month, starting February 1.

Gujarat government on Wednesday announced the reopening of schools for students of classes 9 and 11th from February 1. The announcement was made by state education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama. Earlier on January 11, schools for classes 10 and 12 and colleges for final year graduation and postgraduate students reopened in Gujarat after remaining shut for over nine months due to the coronavirus outbreak.

CBSE Examination

NEW DELHI:

The CBSE examinations for classes 10 and 12 will begin from May 4 this year  later than usual because of the pandemic it was announced on Tuesday. The Class 12 tests, which end on June 11, will be held in two shifts 10.30am to 1.30pm and 2.30pm to 5.30pm in a bid to shorten the entire schedule.

Some students were concerned over the Class 12 biology exam being slotted on May 24, the day JEE Main exams also begin.“I will raise the issue with board officials,” a parent said.
